King Polistes and the Hive

Within the hive is separate broods and families withing the hive, all loyal to the king. Thus, no incest takes place. However, all share the same Hive mind.

The Vespidae usually feed the same way as other hives, drawing out love. However, the ponies call them Parasitic because how they leech off of others for food just by being in the area. Sometimes a pony won't even know a Vespidae is near until later and they have already been fed from. 

The hive is aggressive by nature, but the King is the voice of reason, keeping his much more aggressive drones at bay. His Queen has some power, but is usually there as his lover and figurehead. The Queen births his high princes to take reign of the hive after his death, and to high princesses who would decide whether or not to leave the hive at maturity and found a brand new hive themselves.



Dragons seem to have an interesting taste towards these changelings, for their red chitin has nutrients that give certain dragons a sense of a high when eaten. Thus why the drones are highly aggressive to protect the king.


As a silent rule in the hive, if a drone is injured or is "useless" to the hive, they are banished by the other drones. Not necessarily as a punishment, but as a way to keep the hive strong. The "Useless" drones leave and start colonies where other drones labeled as "useless" live and prosper. Sometimes even breeding with ponies.
